2021.10.25 18:04 HannaaaLucie The ignorance of some healthcare professionals is shocking.
Today I went for my pre-assessment prior to surgery to have majority of my left armpit removed. I know like many of us, we are used to some ignorance when it comes to healthcare professionals and HS, but the nurse I saw today really took the biscuit.
She began with telling me that I was having an incision, drainage and packing for a problem boil. Which is not what I'm having at all. She then told me that I have had 8 of these I&D's before.. I've had 2. I've had packing on all 8.. Ive had packing once. And that I have just been diagnosed with this Hidradenitis thing and that's why I'm here. I was diagnosed 12 years ago 🙄
She wanted to know if I have any open wounds on my body prior to surgery.. hello, I'm here with HS! Open wounds are a given. She couldn't understand why I had open wounds in my groin, thighs, under bust, abdominal fold and armpits when HS affects only armpits 🙄
She absolutely could not get her head around why I wasn't taking antibiotics for these 'infected' wounds all over my body, as surely that would solve it all. I explained HS isn't an infection and my wounds are not currently infected, and that I take Humira for it. That led to a whole other argument about why I need immunosuppressants for boils which are 'caused by poor hygiene'.
Then to top everything off, she asked why I was under the care of a dermatologist. Now I'm not a nurse.. but I'm fairly certain majority of people understand skin and dermatology go together, yet this nurse wasn't understanding why I saw a dermatologist.
Instead of leaving with questions answered on my part, I feel like I've given an hour long study session on what HS is and isn't. It just shows that you move out of the field of dermatology and no one seems to have a clue what HS really is still.

Anyone know if Ancestry is better for matches vs 23&Me for Ireland and UK?
I'm on 23 & Me but only 6 matches in Ireland/UK.
Results state I have 81% DNA from the area.
A genealogist recommended Ancestry.
Before I fork out another $100, would it be worth it?
Hitting some dead ends in early 1800s and hoping to connect to some other trees in my genealogy research.

2021.10.25 18:04 Pokerjohn1995 $IPIX Brilacidin drug used for Covid-19, now being tested for other viruses.
The Company is also pleased to report Brilacidin has been shipped to two academic laboratories for planned in vitro testing of Brilacidin in over 20 acutely infectious viruses, including Ebola, Marburg, Nipah, West Nile and Zika, through a collaboration with U.S. government scientists. The goal of this testing is to further inform the spectrum of Brilacidin's antiviral properties.
In related news, the Company has received individual patient Expanded Access (compassionate use) requests for Brilacidin to treat critically ill COVID-19 patients who are not responding to prior therapy. Expanded Access was implemented by the FDA and Congress to address physician applications for access to potentially lifesaving drugs, prior to FDA approval, for patients in their care when available treatment options have failed. Following receipt of such requests, the Company has supplied Brilacidin to relevant hospitals for individual patient use, with the FDA granting the treating physician permission for the emergency administration of Brilacidin. In addition to Brilacidin’s antiviral profile, Brilacidin’s immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties may be particularly beneficial in treating COVID-19 in hospitalized patients.

2021.10.25 18:04 Extension-Boat-406 Best insurance?
I just had a doc visit where I was informed that I would have to pay about $27,000 (after insurance) for a class II jaw surgery with genioplasty.
I have Highmark BCBS with $3500 deductible. Total cost of the procedure is $35,000. According to the doctor, genioplasty is cosmetic and insurance won't cover any cosmetic procedures. I was hoping that insurance would cover all but the genioplasty and that I wouldn't have to pay more than it and my deductible, but alas here I am, disappointed.
Had anyone had to shop for health insurances that would cover more of the total cost? If so, any advice? What about alternatives, such as going abroad to do the surgery?
TLDR: insurance not covering even 1/3 of total cost (orthognatic+genioplasty). Are there health insurances that more of the cost?

2021.10.25 18:04 whatwhatdb Do 16 ft. or 20 ft. USB3 cables need a signal booster to prevent signal degradation?
I thought I remembered reading that USB3 is supposed to not exceed something like 10 feet, but lots of longer cables dont have the built in repeaters/boosters (or whatever they are called), and people seem to report that they still work ok.
Is it a matter of the maximum signal potential of a USB3 cable may not be achievable at 16 or 20 feet without assistance, but it's still strong enough to not impact Quest 2 performance? Or I'm a wrong about ~10 feet being the limit?
Here's an example of 20 ft. cable with booster.
Here's an example of a non-boosted 16 or 20 ft. cable.

2021.10.25 18:04 YO_MAMMA_AINT_SHIT [MA] Can I resign while on unpaid leave?
I would like to know if I can resign while I'm on unpaid leave?
As most you may know most people in the workforce are being mandated to take the vaccine or they are faced with termination.
I live in Massachusetts and I am placed on 2 weeks unpaid leave. After the two weeks, I will be terminated.
It's not like I don't want to take the vaccine, I just do not have the desire to return back to work.

2021.10.25 18:04 WheeeeeThePeople DISINGENUOUS: While NPR does not receive any direct federal funding, it does receive a small number of competitive grants from CPB and federal agencies like the Department of Education and the Department of Commerce. This funding amounts to approximately 2% of NPR's overall revenues.
| NPR and their fanboys repetitively say NPR funding is only 2%. The gaslighting hinges on two things they hope you won't notice.|
Direct: They are ignoring funds given to member stations and then given to NPR. ie indirect funding.
Federal: They ignore the state/ local tax funding.
Here for example is the % amount of taxes highlighted in yellow, first given to NPR member stations.
Finally the term small is a head fake. It should be ZERO.
